Melem is the new component of thermoresistant polymeric materials (resin, coating, rubber), with the improved physical and chemical properties. . The fire-retardant distending themselves, resistant to high temperatures coatings, which contain melem it is produced on an industrial scale, and are found use as one of the basic components of the fire-retardant distending coatings, of the paint and varnish industry for increasing of the fireproof  properties of enamel and paints, in the construction for the giving to the strength of concrete, for non toxic carbonitriding of the components of the engines of automobiles, fireproof linoleum and other thermostable  articles. In case of fire, due to successive expansions of the individual components, the coating forms a foam layer of coke, protective structure (metal or wood) from the action of high temperatures, increasing the limit of fire resistance from 10-12 minutes to 1 hour.

Melema a powder of white or grayish-yellow color containing 80-90% of the basic substance and 10-20% of melamine.

Melema practically insoluble in water, dilute acids and alkalis, organic solvents. Non-toxic, fire-and explosion-proof.
